Medicine imports

A sourcing opportunity
starts with the right questions.

The requirements for a medicine import depend on the product, where it is sourced and the market in which it will be supplied. A commercial opportunity should therefore begin with accurate product and source information, rather than an assumption that every route is the same.

PharmaGlobe’s importing focus is to bring the relevant commercial and regulatory details into a clear enquiry. We welcome discussions with appropriately authorised manufacturers, wholesalers and healthcare purchasers. The licences and responsibilities relevant to a proposed route must be established before any import or supply can proceed.

A closer look

Where the conversation begins.

01 / FOCUS

Product & source assessment

The starting point is a precise product description and a clear understanding of the source. Manufacturer information, product presentation and the intended market help define what further information needs to be reviewed.

  • Product and manufacturer details
  • Country of origin and dispatch
  • Intended destination and use of supply
02 / FOCUS

Supplier enquiries

Manufacturers and pharmaceutical wholesalers can contact us about potential supply relationships. Introduce your organisation, operating permissions and the products or markets you wish to discuss.

  • Company and site information
  • Relevant operating authorisations
  • Product and commercial information
03 / FOCUS

Route & documentation

An import enquiry should identify the proposed route, handling needs and available documentation. Responsibilities, release requirements and any route-specific permissions must be understood before commercial commitments are made.

  • Relevant product documentation
  • Storage and transport requirements
  • Responsibilities for the proposed route

From enquiry to next steps

  2. 02

    Assess the proposed route

The applicable permissions, responsibilities and documentation must be confirmed for that particular enquiry.

  3. 03

    Agree what can proceed

Only a suitable, properly authorised route can move forward to an agreed commercial arrangement.

Useful answers

Before you
get in touch.

Can a medicine be imported from any country?

Requirements differ according to the product, source and route. Each enquiry must be considered individually; a country’s inclusion in an enquiry is not confirmation that supply is permitted.

Does a wholesale authorisation cover every import activity?

No. The authorisation needed depends on the activity and route. Current licences and their scope must be checked for the proposed transaction.

Can overseas suppliers introduce their products?

Yes. Send your company information, relevant authorisations and a clear product list. An introduction does not constitute product approval or acceptance of a supply arrangement.

What information should an overseas supplier provide?

Start with your legal company name, source country, product list and relevant operating authorisations. Include the intended UK product presentation and the supporting documentation available for the proposed route.

Why do presentation and intended market matter?

An international product enquiry needs more than a medicine name. Strength, pharmaceutical form, pack size, labelling, source country and intended market help define what must be reviewed for a possible import.

Can we discuss shelf life and transport before proceeding?

Yes. Specify minimum remaining shelf life, storage conditions and expected arrival dates early. These requirements form part of the assessment of a proposed route and cannot be assumed from the initial enquiry alone.
